Biting Dogs

Whenever any dog bites a person, the owner or custodian of said dog shall immediately notify the Animal Control Officer who shall order the dog held on the owner's or custodian's premises or shall have it impounded for a period of two (2) weeks. The dog shall be examined by a licensed veterinarian immediately after it has bitten anyone and again at the end of the two (2) week period. If at the end of two (2) weeks a veterinarian is convinced that the dog is free from rabies, the dog shall be released from quarantine or from the shelter, as the case may be. If the dog dies in the meanwhile, its head shall be sent to the State of Illinois Department of Health for examination for rabies.

Barking Dogs 

‚Äč It is hereby declared a public nuisance and it shall be unlawful for nay person to own, keep, harbor or care for any dog or dogs which bark for a substantial period of time so as to disturb or alarm persons in the vicinity and to thereby cause a breach of the peace of the neighborhood. “Substantial period of time” shall mean at least 10 minutes of continuous barking during any one hour period by any dog or dogs in combination.

 

Dangerous Animals   

It is hereby declared a public nuisance and it shall be unlawful for any person to own, keep, harbor, care for, act as a custodian of, or maintain in his or her possession, any dangerous animal within the City of Keithsburg . This includes vicious dog which includes a dog that has either committed an unprovoked attack on a person or animal, or that approaches a person in an apparent attitude of attack when unprovoked.

 

Running At Large

It is hereby declared a public nuisance and it shall be unlawful for any person to permit any animal to run at large in the City of Keithsburg . All animals must be either confined within an enclosure or restrained by leash.
